Our campus is a beautiful arboretum with spacious art & design studios only thirty minutes by train from one of the art capitals of the world, New York City. Across the campus are multiple venues for exhibitions including 4 galleries as well as a campus wide sculpture garden.
The studio facilities span two sites and cover a range of approaches to art and design.
We have 2 digital labs that include 40 Mac Pro computers equipped with a full suite of art and design software, 2 large format archival color ink jet printers, 4 color printers, 6 scanners, and 20 Wacom tablets.
Photography facilities include a fully operational Darkroom equipped with 16 enlarger stations and a designated area for alternative and antique prints. A twenty station digital Mac Lab includes three inkjet printers, three film scanners, and a UV viewing station. The Lighting studio is equipped with both strobe and continuous light units and includes two seamless backdrops and a shooting table for still-life work. The photo equipment library is stocked with a variety of cameras including DSLR, SLR, Medium format, and Large Format models, as well as light meters, tripods, and flash units.
The 3 painting and drawing studios are well lit and feature skylights, easels, and designated storage areas for canvas and 2D work.
The 1400 square foot Printmaking area is well equipped to support a number of different printmaking techniques, including all varieties of intaglio, solarplate, monotype, relief, and screenprint printmaking. Three large Brand presses further service student work, in addition to a mini, in-house digital lab that includes a large format archival color ink jet printer.
The 5,000 square foot sculpture studio and adjacent yard house a small foundry for lost wax and sand casting, wood fabrication equipment, and a sheet metal shop with welding machines. The clay area which recycles and pugs its own clay includes wheels, electric kilns, gas kilns, an anagama kiln, a slab roller, and an extruder for ceramics. We also have installation space for the less object-oriented disciplines of installation and performance art.
Adelphi’s 3D Studio is located on the ground floor of Swirlbul Library. It features both large and small scale 3D printers and work stations for scanning, editing and modeling for 3D projects. The services of the 3D Studio are available to all Adelphi University students, faculty and staff.
Other digital equipment and software housed in the department and across the university is available to support creative work in film, animation, game design, and physical computing.
Students also have access to storage racks and locker space to house supplies.
Individual studio space for BFA Studio and Art and Design Education students is available in their senior year.
