What can you do with a master’s in Art Education?

Educators can learn valuable techniques and strategies by completing a master’s program focused on the challenges of teaching art in today’s classrooms. While earning an advanced degree, you can:

Most of our students become visual art teachers in Long Island, NYC, or throughout New York state. Although public schools are common job sites, our graduates work in private or charter schools as well. Others seek doctoral study and continue to work in K-12 or with university students as arts researchers or arts supervisors. Many of our alumni serve as mentor teachers within their K-12 schools to our new classes of students, creating a rich art teacher community throughout New York state. Some alumni work in museums, afterschool programs and community organizations as well.

Exceptional Hands-On Learning

As a critical component of the program, you will complete in-person fieldwork in a New York K-12 classroom serving as a student-teacher. Our students put their skills into practice in schools and organizations across New York State, including:

Special placements for student teaching abroad are also available.

The Adelphi Online Art Education Program has given me the opportunity and flexibility to accomplish my ambitions in new career challenges while working full time. Program Info

Application Requirements

Applicants should submit the following:

  • Completed application and $60 fee
  • Official transcripts for all schools attended showing a baccalaureate degree, a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA and 30 credit hours in art
  • Personal statement/essay addressing why you wish to pursue graduate study in art education at this time
  • Online survey completed by two recommenders
  • Artistic portfolio of 15-20 images demonstrating competence in one area of specialization as well as a breadth of studio experience in other media

A personal interview via phone/video or on campus is recommended to familiarize applicants with program requirements and to gauge applicants’ aptitude for online study in art education.

Please note that this program does not accept international students.
